What your GATE photo must show
- Full face, front-facing with both eyes clearly visible
- Neutral expression with mouth closed
- Plain white or very light-coloured background
- Both ears visible
- No head covering (exceptions for religious reasons)
Common mistakes that cause GATE application issues
- Using a mobile selfie with a patterned or coloured background
- Uploading a photo that is over 100KB — the portal will reject it
- Using a photo that is blurry, poorly lit, or taken from an angle
- Forgetting to upload the signature separately
- Using the same file for both photo and signature uploads
