NEET UG needs three separate photo elements: a Postcard Size Photo (4in × 6in / 101.6mm × 152.4mm, JPEG, 10-200KB), a Passport Size Photo (35mm × 45mm, JPEG, 10-200KB), and a live webcam photo capture during application. Signature: 80mm × 35mm, JPEG, max 100KB. Use our free resizer tool to get both photos to the correct size instantly.
NEET UG Postcard Size Photo Specifications 2026
The National Testing Agency (NTA) requires a "postcard size" photograph for NEET UG — a much larger format than the 35mm × 45mm passport photo used by most other exams, and genuinely easy to get wrong if you assume the standard size applies here. A photo that doesn't meet the exact specifications will be rejected during the online application process.
Here are the complete specifications for the NEET UG 2026 postcard-size photograph:
| Parameter | Required Value | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Photograph Type | Postcard size (recent) | Required |
| Dimensions | 4in × 6in — 101.6mm × 152.4mm (width × height) | Exact |
| File Format | JPEG / JPG only | Required |
| File Size Range | 10 KB – 200 KB | Strict — both a minimum and a maximum |
| Background | Plain white | Required |
| Photo Age | Recent (taken within 6 months) | Required |
| Face Coverage | 80% of the frame | Guideline |
| Expression | Neutral, mouth closed | Guideline |
| Glasses / Caps | Not allowed | Avoid |
NEET UG Passport Size Photo — A Separate Requirement
NEET UG doesn't stop at the postcard-size photo — you're also required to upload a separate passport-size photo, smaller than the postcard photo, alongside it. Many candidates only prepare one photo and get caught out by this second, distinct requirement:
| Parameter | Required Value |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 35mm × 45mm (width × height) — standard passport size |
| File Format | JPEG / JPG only |
| File Size Range | 10 KB – 200 KB |
| Special Rule | Your name and the date the photo was taken must be printed at the bottom of the photo itself |
| Background | Plain white |
The postcard-size photo (4in × 6in) and the passport-size photo (35mm × 45mm) are both required, and neither substitutes for the other. The passport photo also has the extra "name and date printed at the bottom" rule that the postcard photo doesn't — similar in spirit to UPPSC's printed-date requirement on some state PSC exams, but specific to this one photo type for NEET.
NEET UG's Live Photo Capture Requirement
Beyond the two static photo uploads, NEET UG's application process includes a live photo capture step — NTA has you take a photo directly through your webcam or device camera at a specific point in the application, which is then used to verify that your uploaded postcard and passport photos genuinely match your current appearance. This is a real-time capture, not a file upload, so the usual resize/compress workflow doesn't apply to it — the two things that matter are good lighting and a stable camera at the time of capture, since this image typically can't be edited or resized afterward.
NEET UG Signature Specifications 2026
NEET UG also requires a separate signature upload alongside your photograph, with its own distinct specifications:
| Parameter | Required Value |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 80mm × 35mm (width × height) |
| File Format | JPEG / JPG only |
| Maximum File Size | 100 KB |
| Ink Colour | Black or dark blue on white paper |
| Background | Plain white paper |
| Content | Candidate's signature only — no printed name |

Open Postcard Size Resizer →How to Take the Perfect NEET UG Photo
NEET UG is one of India's largest competitive exams, and its centres are known for unusually strict, in-person identity checks — careful photo-to-face matching, thorough frisking, and dress-code enforcement — put in place after past malpractice concerns. NEET's postcard photo size (4in × 6in / 101.6mm × 152.4mm) is also dramatically larger than the 35mm × 45mm used by most other exams — and, confusingly, NEET separately also wants a 35mm × 45mm passport photo, so the "one size fits all" instinct fails twice over here.
Do's
- Prepare both photos separately: the 4in × 6in postcard photo and the 35mm × 45mm passport photo — don't assume one covers both requirements
- Take the photo against a plain white background
- Face the camera directly, both ears visible, no side angles
- Wear simple clothing without large metallic buttons, embroidery, or jewellery, since centres enforce a strict dress code during frisking
- Ensure adequate, even lighting — no harsh shadows on your face
- Keep a neutral, natural expression with mouth closed
- Ensure the photo is in focus and not blurry, since the live capture step will be compared against it
Don'ts
- Don't reuse a 35mm × 45mm photo sized for another exam as your postcard photo — NEET's postcard dimensions are genuinely different and much larger
- Do not wear sunglasses, tinted glasses, or caps
- Do not wear heavy jewellery or accessories that could be flagged during the centre's frisking checks (exceptions for religious reasons, subject to verification)
- Do not use a heavily edited or filtered photo — centre staff visually match it against your face, and NTA's own live capture step does the same digitally
- Do not use a photo older than 6 months
- Do not use a scanned copy of a photo from an old ID card
Because most other exams use a single 35mm × 45mm passport photo, many NEET candidates prepare only that size and get caught out by the much larger 4in × 6in postcard photo requirement — or vice versa. NEET actually needs both, as separate uploads. On top of that, NEET centres run some of the strictest in-person identity verification of any Indian exam, and the live webcam capture during application adds a third check — so a photo that doesn't closely resemble your current appearance can cause real trouble, not just at upload. Our tool has separate presets for both the postcard and passport sizes so you don't have to do the conversion math yourself.
How to Resize Your Photo to NEET UG Specifications
Open the resizer with NEET UG's postcard-size specification already pre-loaded — note the large 4in × 6in size is set automatically, so you don't need to manually override the standard 35×45mm default. Switch to the passport-size preset for the second required photo. Upload your photo, crop it if needed, and download once the Form Readiness panel turns green. For a full walkthrough of the tool, see our step-by-step resizing guide.
What Pixel Dimensions Should the NEET UG Postcard Photo Be?
The NTA notification specifies the postcard photo's dimensions as 4in × 6in (101.6mm × 152.4mm), but photo portals work in pixels. Because 4×6 inches is a clean round number, the pixel dimensions come out clean at every standard resolution (DPI):
| Resolution | Pixel Width | Pixel Height |
|---|---|---|
| 96 DPI (standard screen) | 384 px | 576 px |
| 150 DPI (medium print) | 600 px | 900 px |
| 300 DPI (high quality print) | 1200 px | 1800 px |
Our tool uses 96 DPI by default, which is standard for web uploads. If the NTA portal specifically asks for a higher DPI, contact us and we'll help.
NEET UG 2026 — Other Important Notes
- Because NEET centres are strict about identity verification, keep your photo recent and genuinely representative of how you look on exam day — not just technically compliant
- It's commonly recommended to carry 4-6 physical postcard-size photo copies to the exam centre for verification and documentation — check your specific admit card instructions for the exact number required
- The NTA portal may validate each photo's dimensions and file size automatically — remember NEET requires two differently-sized photos (postcard and passport), so check each one carefully before uploading
- Review the official NEET dress code and prohibited items list before exam day, since frisking checks are stringent
